September 12--  The city of Lyons will be paying a little more for trash pickup next year.

At its September meeting, the city council granted Republic Services an increase of one percent starting in January.  The company had requested a 3.07% increase tied to the Consumer Price Index.

In other actions, the council refused a bid from Steve Weeks to buy a piece of city property.  His bid of $20,005 was the only bid submitted for 1.7 acres next to the old City Hall which he wanted to use for expansion of his "Stockpile" storage building business.

The Columbus insurance brokerage firm of J. Smith Lanier was chosen from among five bidders to act at the city's insurance broker of record.

The council also voted to observe Trick or Treat in Lyons this year on Halloween night, October 31.
