August 9 --

Over 150 people showed up to the Lyons City Council meeting on Tuesday as the council recognized winners involved in the Soapbox Derby World Championships as well as Lyons Recreation Department Championship Baseball Teams.  City Manager and newly appointed Soapbox Derby Director, Jason Hall, is enjoying the fruit of a countless number of hard workers, supporters and racers.
"We took eight racers to Akron, Ohio and walked away with some 3rd, 2nd and 1st places finishes. It's all due to the hard work of the committee, the racers and their families who are all amazing. I am excited about what's coming up and Matt Driggers is helping me as we gear up for our first Rally Race in September," said Hall.
Along with proclamations for the Soapbox Derby and Champions, the city issued three proclamations for the second time in as many years, recognizing the accomplishments of recreation department baseball and softball GRPA State Champions.  Recreation Director, James McGowan said, "It's been unbelievable how that age group has been, but we have been fortunate with some good athletes and that have worked hard."  As Director McGowan also stated how proud he is for what this means for high school athletics in Lyons and his ongoing thanks to the City, Council and Mayor.

Additionally, two project bid resolutions were approved by the city council and include a bid for sanitary sewer system improvement at the Peterson Lift Station - force main realignment and for sanitary sewer system gravity line.
