July 6-- UPDATE:  Vidalia Police Chief Frank Waits reports VPD police officer Nick Luke suffered only a cut hand Thursday morning when his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Loop Road.  The chief also clarified that the patrol car was struck on the left front quarter-panel and was not T-boned as originally reported.

July 5--  A Vidalia police officer was injured this morning in an auto accident.

According to Vidalia Police Chief Frank Waits, Patrolman Nick Luke suffered non-life threatening injuries when his patrol car was T-boned by an oncoming tractor-trailer at the intersection of Loop Road (Georgia Highway 130) and the Hawk's Point Golf Course Road.

Officer Luke was taken to Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia and the Georgia State Patrol was called to investigate the accident. 

Police blocked Loop Road and re-routed  traffic while the accident scene was cleared.
