June 6--  The Toombs County Board of Education has named Barry Waller as the interim Toombs County School Superintendent succeeding Richard Smith who moved to a new job in Statesboro this month.

barrywallerWaller served this past school year as the interim principal at Toombs County High School after working briefly as the school system's Director of Human Resources.  He grew up in the Toombs County school system and has been working as an educator for 20 years including jobs with Robert Toombs Christian Academy, Toombs County schools and schools in Jeff Davis County where he was a middle school principal for six years.

"The number one thing is the direction of the school system.  Mr. Richard Smith was here for several years and things have moved forward and been going really well. I don't think the board wanted to shake things up with the interim appointment so we're just going to continue the great things going on in the Toombs County school system.  Being a hometown guy, I know a little bit of the in's and out's of the community and that will help me continue to push the positive things of our school system.  We're just looking forward to making our school system be the best that it can be," Waller said.
