Autism AwarenessMay 9--  This past Saturday the Soperton Police Department held its 4th Annual "Outrunning Autism" event at Jean Gillis Park in Soperton.

The event was kicked off with a 5K road race at 8:00 am, with an even 100 runners participating. This was the most participants ever in the four years of hosting this event.

After the race, there were numerous vendors set up in the park cooking BBQ, funnel cakes, peanuts, pork skins, and more. Several local vendors had their merchandise on display and for sale.

The South Paw Band took the stage and provided some awesome entertainment for the participants in the park.

The first attempt at a Corn Hole Tournament was also a huge success with 20 teams participating and Kyle Rosen and Daniel Johnson winning first place.

With all of the events, event sponsors, and pure generosity from the fine people in Soperton and Treutlen County Georgia, the event raised over $10,000 to help these wonderful children in Soperton and Treutlen County.

(L-R) Heather, Colton and Lance Hooks, Chief Jason McCoy and Mallie Hooks.

Soperton Police Chief Jason McCoy said, "I want to thank all of our sponsors, especially Treutlen County Board of Commissioners Chairman Lance Hooks, who donated his yearly salary earned as Commission Chairman for Treutlen County. We are still getting checks in the mail from donations, so the total will keep going up."
