October 10-- The Lyons Lions Club sponsored a City Wide Clean-Up Day on Saturday spearheaded by Dr. Chris Foster, 2nd VP of the Lyons Lions Club.  He reached out to other community organizations, school groups and church groups to assist, forming a community wide volunteer group to assist with the project.

lyonscleanupThe group of about 50 volunteers were from all over the city. Several of the Lyons Lions Club members were there, joined by members of the Toombs County Bulldog football team, the St. Luke A. M. E. Church, the Oaks Baptist Church, the Lyons Main Street Program, the Lyons Recreation Program, the TCHS FCCLA Program, a host of students from Toombs County High School and several other interested citizens that just wanted to help out.

It was a great mix of volunteers that grabbed the trash bags, put on gloves and reflective vests and headed out to collect the trash that has accumulated along the major highways that come into Lyons. There were exchanges of laughter as the volunteers wondered if their friends would see them and think they were working out a "community service" sentence for running afoul of the law. No, these were not lawbreakers repaying their debt to society, rather they were good citizens of this great city wanting to give back to the community and do their part to make it better.

They started at 9 a.m. and finished at noon only to be treated to hamburgers and hot dogs generously provided by the Lyons First Baptist Church.
