April 23--  The President of East Georgia State College in Swainsboro says the school is the most affordable in the state's university system.

{mosimage}"Our tuition and fees are the lowest in the University System of Georgia.  If you're a young person and you want to get out of college without a lot of debt, you need to think about East Georgia State College," President Robert Boehmer told Vidalia Kiwanians Tuesday.

President Boehmer says plans are underway to start some new four-year degree programs at the college.

"The next step for East Georgia is to add more Bachelors Degree programs and they're all going to be programs targeted on unique needs of the region, not programs which duplicate what you can get elsewhere.

"The other part of our future is we're going to get a lot larger because there are a lot of young people in this area who are extremely bright and they need an affordable college education and that's what we do," he said.

Because the state has reduced its share of funding to state colleges, the president says East Georgia needs more students and contributions from the communities its serves.

"We're going to meet that challenge by continuing to increase enrollment and by reaching out to the community which understands we have a $70 million economic impact on this region," he said.
