October 9-- The VHS Indians Cross Country team brought home the win in MIlledgeville at the Braves Invitational on Saturday, October 6th.  With several personal best performances they managed to upset Mary Persons, who defeated the Indians last month at Jones County.

Cole Register led the Indians with another personal best time of 18.00 and a 4th place finish.  Chason Brogdon ran a strong race with a time of 18:22 and a 7th place finish.  Tucker Coleman his third consecutive personal best with a time of 19:15 and a 13th place finish.  The other 4 scoring members of this team were Luke Palmer, Bryson Whited, Markell Parrish and Hunter Hammock, as the top 7 finishers are considered the varsity team.

“These fellows fight hard every day and continue to improve due to their hard work and dedication in this heat, day in and day out.  They are certainly up for the challenge every week and are seeking another victory on October 25 at our regional championship. They have it in them to accomplish what they have set out to do!  This is a very young team but they have what it takes to continue to grow and develop and fight their way to the top as the underdogs. They are simply amazing.” Coach Mandy Godbee said.

The Girls team united and ran really well as a pack and accomplished their goal of keeping all 5 runners under 30 minutes.  Standout runner Kaitlyn Allen continues to lead the pack along with Keyashia Harden, Allie Whittaker, Jakerra Mcrae, Alecia Henry, Felicity Day and Zoee Jones.

10 8 18 VHS CC Girls “The top 4 runners have been strong all season but it will come down to our 5th runner when we compete at region. This week Alecia Henry focused and set her sights on running under 30 minutes and setting the team up for an opportunity to qualify for state.  I know they can do it and they get stronger and faster by the day” Godbee said.
