September 10-- The RTCA Crusaders ran over the Cougars of Creekside Christian Academy of McDonough last Friday night in Lyons. RTCA downed the Cougars 56-25 as they improved to 3-0 on the season.

The Crusaders got things going early in the game when Sensier Carnes had two runs of 15 and 14 yards as they drove down the field on their opening possession. RTCA ended their drive with a 27 yard touchdown run by Tyshawn Powell. Cade Jones took in the two-point conversion to put RTCA on top 8-0 with 8:15 left in the first quarter.

RTCA got on the board again as they got a turnover with Carnes returning the ball 28 yards for another Crusader touchdown. Hannah Keene added the extra point to give the Crusaders a 15-0 lead.

The Crusaders kicked off to the Cougars got the ball and started a drive at their own 29-yard line and moved down the field. Creekside got on the board with a 10-yard run with 2:38 to go in the first period. The PAT was good to close the Crusader lead to 15-7.

RTCA started their next drive at their own 35-yard line, but just three plays later fumbled the ball and it back to the Cougars with great field position with just 1 second remaining in the first quarter.Two plays later they scored a TD to make the Crusader lead to just 15-13 with 11:50 left in the half.

Robert Toombs started at their own 26 yard-line after the Cougar kickoff and had an 11- play drive, but it ended with Creekside intercepting a pass at the15-yard line. RTCA played well on defense and forced a three-and-out.

After the punt the Crusaders took over at their 34-yard line when Carnes ran on first down for 25 yards and then two runs by Adam Edwards moved the ball to the 24-yard line of Creekside. Powell ran it in for a touchdown with just :45 seconds left in the half. Keene made the extra point to put RTCA up 22-13.

Creekside on their next drive Peyton Phillips came down with an interception for RTCA at the Crusaders 30-yard .One play later Jones found Edwards for a completion and Edwards outran the Cougars defense for a 70-yard touchdown with just :28 seconds left in the half. Keene's extra point was good to put the Crusaders on top 29-13.

Creekside got the ball to start the second half but could not get the offense going and were forced to punt the ball away. Jones came through the line and blocked the kick for the Crusaders giving RTCA great field position.

Carnes finished off the short drive with a 12- yard TD run.The extra point from Keene was successful and the Crusaders led 36-13.

Creekside did get a big play for 59-yards and a touchdown on their next drive to close the lead to 36-19.

RTCA had an eleven play drive for another touchdown on their next drive that included a run of 22 yards from Powell. Jones found the end zone on a 2-yard quarterback keeper on the second play of the fourth quarter, and with the extra point from Keene, RTCA led 43-19.

RTCA scored two more times in the fourth quarter with the first coming on a short run by Carnes with just over six minutes to play. Keene put another kick through  to give the Crusaders a 50-19 lead.

Later in the 4th quarter Sam NeSmith came up with an interception for RTCA with just two minutes to go in the game. RTCA took advantage as Powell broke free just two plays later and went 76-yards for a touchdown to make the score 56-19.

With time running down the Cougars scored off of a turnover to make the final score 56-25.

RTCA improves to 3-0 on the year. This week they will be on the road at Edmund Burke Academy in Waynesboro with kickoff set for 7:30.. You can hear the action on WVOP-AM 970 and 105.3 FM and on southeastgeorgiatoday.com.
