August 10-- Legendary Vidalia High School Coach, Administrator and Athletic Director, Ralph Parsons, passed away at his home Friday afternoon. Coach Parsons lead Vidalia teams to state championships games in football and basketball and his teams won five state championships in golf. He served as Athletic Director at Vidalia High School for 33 years. In 1993 he was inducted into the Southern Hall of Fame as a basketball player. He also played baseball while at what was then known as Georgia Teachers College.

Coach Parsons greatest legacy may have been the character he lived out every day. He was a man of strong faith and was respected by students, teachers and fellow professionals. Coach Parson exemplified the term "Gentleman" in everything he did. He was a positive role model for young men and women in our community for more than 40 years.

Coach Parsons was married to his wife Betty for sixty-three years until she passed away in May of last year. He is survived by one son, Hal R. Parsons, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Savannah and two grandsons, Harold R. "Tripp" Parsons III and William Bryce Parsons, both of Savannah.
