June 28--  Vidalia native and PGA pro golfer Paul Claxton won the Georgia PGA Senior Championship this week.

paulclaxtonheadshot"This was the qualifier for the National Senior Club Professional Championship.  Each state has its own qualifier for its senior pros.  This was held at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta, a great golf course, and I was fortunate to win in a playoff," Claxton reports.

The former pro at Hawk's Point in Vidalia, Claxton is finding the going tough in his quest to play on the PGA Champion's Tour, "I'm having to do Monday qualifying and it's not going as well as I'd hoped.  It's tough to get out there and there are only four slots on Monday and you don't get to try to qualify every tournament.  They have several invitationals and majors that you can't qualify for, so I'm having to wait my turn.  That's the hardest part, just having to sit around until you have the opportunity to qualify."

Claxton's next chance to qualify comes in five weeks at the 3M Champion's Tour event in Minnesota.
