June 25-- For the 2nd year in a row Vidalia finished 2nd in the state in AA Directors Cup standing. The Director’s Cup was established by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association to recognize the most outstanding athletic department in each classification. Region’s Bank is the corporate sponsor for the award.

            Vidalia’s Girls Track team won their first state title in school history and extended Vidalia’s streak to 6 years in a row with at least one state championship. Sixteen of seventeen teams earned points by placing in state or making the state playoffs. The Boys basketball team finished as the state runner’s up, advancing to the championship game for the second time in school history. Cheerleading, Wrestling, Boys Track and Girls Golf all had top ten finishes in their respective sports. Softball, Boys Cross Country Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer and Boys Tennis all finished in the top 16 in their sports.

            Elbert County, where former Vidalia Head Football Coach Sid Fritz serves as Athletic Director, finished at the Champion of AA with 933 points. The rest of top ten included: 2nd – Vidalia – 891, 3rd – Rockmart - 876, 4th – Bleckley County - 832, 5th – Dodge County – 787, 6th – Jeff Davis – 749, 7th – Banks County – 725, 8th – Rabun County – 717, 9th – Armuchee – 705, 10th – Fitzgerald – 699.

            Vidalia has finished in the top 10 for six years in a row and is the only school in AA that holds that distinction. Athletic Director Chunk Reid said, “We are very proud of this accomplishment. It is a tribute to the hard working athletic and great coaches that we are fortunate to have at VHS.”
