March 6—The VHS Indians Track and Field team opened the season at Baldwin County High School at the Friday Night Lights Meet and finished in second place out of fourteen teams.

The top performer and high point winner was senior Tyquan Powell who finished in first place in the 110 and 300 Hurdles and was on both the 4x100 and 4x400 teams that finished in second place. 3 6 18 Tyquon

Other top finishers were: Sophomore Markell Parrish finished in second place in his first 800 race of his career. 

Our distance runners did not place in the top 3 but most of them ran personal best times in the mile and 2 mile.  Leading the way in the 2 mile was Cole Register.

We had a tight pack finish in the 1 mile race with Chason Brogdon, 5:23, Cole Register 5:24, and Hunter Hammock, 5:25. 

Malik Lee placed second in the high jump competition, bringing Jesi McRae along right behind him, placing 4th.

Standouts in the throws were Jaylen Clements who threw his personal best in the discus with a 124'20" placing. Robert Brown threw his best with a 40'7" and placed 3rd.

The 4x100 m Relay team finished second.  The members of the relay team were: Kahlil Jones, Raymond Collins, Mielon Parrish and Tyquan Powell

We had a very close finish in the 4x400 Relay with Kahlil Jones, Santuan Wells, Kyare Conaway and Tyquan Powell. Tyquan Powell was anchor leg and made up 15 meters to catch up to the Baldwin team. 

Coach Mandy Godbee said, “Overall, this is an outstanding group of athletes. We still have a lot of work and development to do, and these young men are ready to do the work and are up for the challenge.  They know what they need to do and they know what it is going to take to get there.  They are focused and ready to work.  It is a pleasure and an honor to work with such a dedicated group of talented young men. They make me proud everyday.”
