January 29-- The Vidalia wrestling team qualified all twelve of their competing wrestlers for next week’s sectional tournament and earned a third-place team finish in the Area Traditional Tournament.

“We were very excited when our two big guys won in the conso semis to guarantee that all 12 were moving onto next week,” Dr. James Ferry, head wrestling coach, stated after the tournament. Senior, Aldarreis Tillery (152) won his first area championship; while junior, Tahjah Watts (195) won his second consecutive area championship. “I was thrilled to win this tournament. I have been working for this for the past three years,” Tillery said after his finals match. Watts contributed, “It was great to win this one, especially against my opponent because we’ve had a great battle back and forth this year.”

The Indians placed five other wrestlers in the finals and earned second place finishes; Kaleb Cook (125), Cory Braddy (138), Elijiah Thornton (145), Thomas Godbee (170), and Austin Mazzeo (182). “We were pleased with our other finalists. With a week to work on some things we believe they’ll be back there next at sectionals with an improved outcome,” Coach Bobby Blount stated at the conclusion of the tournament. Five more Indians placed in the consolation finals earning the right to continue onto the sectionals; Zack Edwards (220) finished third, Robert Allen (120), Quadir Harris (132), Chason Brogdon (160), and Razor Ramon Escalera (285) finished fourth.
