December 19-- For the second consecutive year, the Vidalia Indian Wrestling team won the Treutlen County Viking Invitational. Vidalia placed 11 out of the 13 weight classes they were filling. Dodge County finished second, Jeff Davis third, Treutlen County fourth, and Swainsboro fifth in the 17 team field.

Coach Ferry stated, “We felt very good with how our guys competed in the pool portion of the tournament. We’re always excited about getting five matches in any tournament, mat time is irreplaceable.” He continued, “We had an outstanding semifinals and medal round. Those are the rounds that wrestlers really need to be at their best. Our guys showed some real grit during those matches.”

Undefeated champions for the Indians were Kaleb Matthews (113), Aldarreis Tillery (152), Tom Godbee (170), and Tahjah Watts (195). Markevious Mincey (120) finished in the runner up position, while Cory Braddy (138), Chason Brogdon (160), and Zack Edwards (220) finished third. Fourth place finishers were Robert Allen (126), Austin Mazzeo (182), and Razor Ramon Escalera (285). Senior, Aldarreis Tillery commented, “I’ve earned some medals here, but this was a big win for me and our team.” The Indians will be at the Fitzgerald Invitation later this week.12 19 17 VHS Wrestling
