The West Laurens Raiders took the lead with just over a minute to go in the game and then held on to win the STC Highway 280 Tournament Tuesday night 51-48.

After opening the game ice cold, shooting just 2 for their first 11, the Vidalia Indians went on a 13-0 run to lead the Raiders 16-5 at the end of the first quarter. But the hot shooting would fade away and West Laurens would end the half outscoring the Indians 18-10 and trailed by only 3 points 26-23 at the end of the half.

In the second half West Laurens began playing smothering defense and caused numerous turnovers which led to several baskets and outscored the Indians the rest of the way 28-22.

Senior Tahj Jones led all scorers with 23 points with Anetrell Williams adding 11 points for the Indians, who fall to 1-1 with the loss. Troy Williams led West Laurens with 12 points.

Up next for the Indians is a matchup with Tattnall County on Tuesday of next week, followed by the first Region game of the year on Friday as Vidalia will host Swainsboro.

In the girls contest, the young Lady Indians were outmatched by West Laurens who won handily 56-31. The Lady Indians who fell to 0-2 with the loss was led by Treyunna Roundtree with 12 points
