The 2017 2AA All Region team was recently chosen by region Coaches with the Toombs County Bulldogs placing 8 players on the first team, with senior defensive end D.J. Mathews being named Co Defensive Player of the Year, and senior kicker Rigoberto Tinoco being named Special Teams Player of the Year.

Vidalia also was represented on the first team with 4 players making the first team, with junior offensive tackle Jaylen Clements making the offensive first team and junior linebacker Nyshon Bell, senior safety Dermon Simmons and senior defensive end Daniel Collins taking first team defensive honors.

“I am so proud of these guys, they really stepped it up and played hard this year and to make the first team, with two of them being sophomores, in a region with so much talent, really says a lot” said Vidalia Head Football Coach Lee Chomskis”

In addition to Matthews and Tinoco’s honors, Toombs County was well represented on the first team, with senior quarterback Dalton McBride, senior running back Keshawn Morgan and senior offensive linemen Willa Campbell and Cody Fuller, all receiving first team offensive honors.

Three Dogs also made the defensive first team, with senior defensive lineman Ervin Mincey, senior linebacker Jaquail Boyd and senior defensive back Demetrius Owens making the defensive list. The Dogs punter, Kyle Reynolds was also named first team by the region coaches.

Toombs County Head Coach Richie Marsh who is in his second year, gives all the credit to his players, “it’s a pleasure to coach a group of players who work hard and try to make themselves better each and every day” Coach Marsh also said that Matthews and Tinocos position of the year honors were very deserving, “CJ has been a quiet force on our squad for two years and is very deserving. He does whatever we ask him to do and takes passion and pride in whatever he has to do on both sides of the ball.” Marsh also beamed with pride when asked about his kicker Rig Tinoco, “there’s not many kickers who work like Rig, he spent a lot of time in the offseason working on perfecting his skill and takes a lot of pride and has a lot of passion in what he does and he is very deserving of the honor.”

The second team was well represented by both schools with Tristan Cross and Robert Brown receiving honors on the offensive side and Tyshawn Powell being named to the defense for Vidalia. For Toombs County, Dakota Braddock, Will Fuller, Tyler Smith and Jeidon Sistrunk all landed on the defensive side of the ball.
