VHS ToombsThe Toombs County Bulldogs snapped Vidalia’s eight game winning streak Friday night at The Reservation as they defeated the Indians 26-7. The Bulldogs out-gained the Indians 322 to 92 with KeShawn Morgan running for 204 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way.

The Indians couldn’t get any offense going in the first half garnering only two first downs while Toombs pulled out to a 13-0 lead behind a 1 yard run by Morgan and two field goals by Rig Tinoco, including a 26 yarder on their first drive of the night with 10:59 to go in the first quarter and a 51 yarder to make it 13-0 with 21 seconds to go in the half.

The Indians would hold Toombs to a three and out on their first possession of the 2nd half and then partially block a Kyle Reynolds punt giving the ball to the Indians on the Toombs 33 yard line. From there the Indians would get two runs from Derman Simmons and complete a 7 play 33 yard drive when Simmons when in from 1 yard out to make it 13-7 with 3:02 to go in the 3rd quarter.

Garrett Gillis would get his second interception of the year on Toombs County’s next possession but a holding penalty by the Indians would hamper their quest to keep the drive alive and the Indians were forced to punt.

The Indian defense forced a third and long situation on the Dog’s next possession, but Dalton McBride avoided a rush and threw a strike to Chandler Lynn to convert the third down to keep the drive alive.

From there, Morgan would score from 1 yard out to make it 20-7 with 2:01 to go in the third quarter.

Toombs would add a late touchdown with 2:57 to go in the game on Morgan’s third touchdown of the night, this one from 5 yards out to make the final score 26-7.

With the loss the Indians fall to 4-4 on the year and 4-2 in Region 2AA and will face Bryan County in the final game of the year, Friday night at the Reservation. The senior football players, cheerleaders and band members will be honored before the game during Senior Night Festivities and Recreation Football players will also be recognized.
