The Vidalia Heritage Academy Middle School football team set records on Thursday evening in Conyers, Georgia defeating Young Americans Christian School 60-18 in round one of the GICAA Middle School State Playoffs. Once again, standout James Hutchison racked up rushing yards totaling a whopping 362 and seven touchdowns and led the defense with eleven tackles. Colt Reddick picked up nine tackles and Josiah Smith had eight. Additionally, 6th grader Ledger Curl scored on a 56 yard touchdown run.

Eagles Head Coach Seth Sitzman said the halftime conversation dealt with him telling the team they “couldn’t make small mistakes in the second half and I think they understood that we were making small mistakes and it was causing big losses. They opened their eyes a bit and knew what had to happen in the second half for us to come out and play good football.”

Sitzman also praised the leadership of 8th grader James Hutchison by saying, “he’s a leader on and off the football field. A lot of kids look up to him and that’s what you need in a sports program, a leader that can come out here and teach kids how to play football. He’s overall a great kid and he’s doing a great job as a leader.”

The Eagles are on the road Thursday to Macon as they face Covenant Academy in the semi-final round, a team that served up their only loss of the season just a few weeks ago. Coach Sitzman responded to looking forward by saying, “I think this was in the back of all of our heads and we look forward to taking revenge on the team that took that one away from us.”
