September 30--  The Treutlen Vikings traveled to Millen to face Jenkins County and came up short, losing 22 – 6 to the Eagles.  It was the fourth straight loss for the Vikings.

Neither team could get anything going offensively for the first quarter and a half of the game but Viking punter Trevor Byrd kept the Eagles pinned deep in their own territory with punts of 51 and 47 yards during that time.

Midway through the second quarter, Treutlen began moving the ball, getting inside the Eagle 10 yard line but could not convert the drive into points turning it over on downs.  Jenkins County took advantage of the momentum swing of their defensive stand and flew down the field in four plays, taking the lead when Jujaun Major ran it in from 2 yards out to give the Eagles the lead 7 – 0 with 6:41 remaining in the first half.

In an attempt to get some momentum back on their next possession, the Vikings threw an interception on a fake punt giving Jenkins County good field position at the Treutlen 49.  The Treutlen defense stiffened to keep the Eagles out of the end zone but kicker Brice Joiner drilled a 30 yard FG to give Jenkins County a 10 – 0 lead at halftime.

After the half, it took Jenkins County only 2 plays to drive 65 yards when Stefan Robertson ran untouched 35 yards to paydirt.  The PAT was wide right and the Eagles led 16 – 0 with 11:07 left in the third quarter.

Treutlen drove deep into Eagle territory again but turned it over on downs inside the Eagle 20.  The Vikings did get on the board on their first possession of the fourth quarter when Tafarje Jordan ran it in from 2 yards out, capping a 10 play 64 yard drive.  The two point conversion attempt was no good and the Eagles led 16 – 6 heading into the final period.

Jenkins County iced the victory on a 49 yard pass from Alroy Parham to J.C. Williams with 5:27 remaining in the game.

Treutlen falls to 1-5 on the year and will face their rivals, the Montgomery County Eagles at Bobby Driggers Stadium on Friday for Senior Night with kickoff set for 7:30.  Catch all the action with Dr. John Pournelle and Jeff Raiford on Sweet Onion Country 101.7 FM and online at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com
