September 13-- A basketball court dedication ceremony was recently held at Gillis Gymnasium at Brewton-Parker College in Mt Vernon. The court is now named in honor of Lena M. Thigpen the mother of Paul Thigpen of Paul Thigpen Chevrolet in Vidalia.

Lena M. Thigpen from Mt Vernon graduated from Brewton-Parker in 1990 after the passing of her husband and while working full time. She was one of the first to receive a four year degree from the college.

Paul Thigpen Chevrolet recently contributed the funds needed to fully renovate the court at Gillis Gymnasium.

“I am so very grateful and honored for what Brewton-Parker has done. She was a big inspiration for me and also to the students at BPC. I hope and pray that when people see her name on the court that they know that she was a genuine person who loved Brewton-Parker.” Paul Thigpen said.

BPC President Dr. Steve Echols said, “It is such a blessing to have the community support like we have received at Brewton-Parker and Paul Thigpen has been a big supporter of the community in many ways. We had a need to redo our court and frankly we didn’t have the funds and he came through. It has meant so much already to our athletic program. Mrs. Thigpen was highly thought of in the community and it is an honor for us to be able to have the court named after her and we are thankful for the generosity of the Thigpen’s to make this possible.” 9 13 17 Paul Thigpen
