Derman Simmons vs WL

For the first time since September 20th 2013 the Vidalia Indians were held without a point in a 15-0 loss to the West Laurens Raiders Friday night in Dexter. The Indians were held to just 135 total yards on the night by a tenacious and swarming Raider defense as they fell to 0-2 on the year.

The game was scoreless throughout the first quarter as both defenses held the offenses in check. West Laurens first score of the night came with 8:00 to go in the half on a 8 yard pass play from A.J. Mathis to Rob Deal to make it 6-0 following a missed PAT.

The Vidalia defense would hold the Raiders in check the rest of the half and played outstanding throughout the game with Nyshun Bell having another good game recording 7 solo tackles on the night, followed by Kris Gay with 6 and Cheldon Thompson and Bryant Phillips each adding 5 each.

The Raiders second score of the night came at the 5:33 mark of the 3rd quarter on a bad snap from center on a 4th down play deep in their own territory which went through the back of the end zone for a safety, which put the Raiders on top 8-0.

The final score of the night came on a six yard run by Doryan Gorham with 9:33 to go in the game following a Vidalia fumble in their own territory, to make the score 15-0.

Leading the way for the Indians on offense was Derman Simmons who rushed for 39 yards on 8 carries. Hall Graham was 6 for10 on the night through the air for 39 yards and with Daniel Collins catching two of those completions for 20 yards.

The Indians will travel to Metter on Friday night for their first Region 2AA game of the year as they face off against the Tigers who defeated Claxton Friday night 21-9.
