In their second regular season game, the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles middle school football team grabbed their second win, 56-46, and improved their season 2-0 in a back and forth game in Conyers on Tuesday. Before coming out late in the fourth quarter with a knee injury, 8th Grade tailback Hugh Baird had picked up 125 yards and a 24-yard touchdown. 8th Grader James Hutcheson totaled 150 yards with 5 touchdowns and 8th Grader Josiah Smith picked up 60 yards and 1 touchdown. Smith also led the team with 8 tackles, while Hutcheson had 5 tackles and 2 sacks.

Headmaster and Assistant Coach Jeff McCormick is currently filling in the head coach position for Coach Seth Sitzman who recently welcomed the birth of a child.  Concerning the win, Coach McCormick said "the big thing is that we had some kids that just didn't quit. They have an incredible athlete in their quarterback, he was a one man show, but we just didn't stop. We had some kids get hurt and get back in there and we scored every time we had the ball, except once and we had to punt only one time."   The Middle School Eagles play again next Thursday, September 7th at home against Crisp Academy. All home middle school and varsity games will be played at the newly acquired Charles Wood field in Vidalia.
