August 20—The Toombs County Bulldogs opened the 2017 season with 10-8 win over the Class A East Laurens Falcons Saturday at the Erk Russell Classic at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

The Bulldogs scored the only points in the first half on 28-yard field goal by Rig Tinoco with 1:21 left in the second quarter after a thirteen play, sixty-three yard drive.

Toombs County scored again after an eighty-two yard drive on an 8-yard run by Quarterback Dalton McBride with just six seconds remaining in the third quarter. Tinoco added the PAT to give the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead.

The Falcons would get on the board with 7:24 remaining in the game on a 1-yard TD run by Eriq Cooper. The two-point pass try was good to make it a 10-8 Toombs County lead.

The Bulldogs sealed the victory after a defensive sack by Ervin Mincey on a fourth down and thirteen from the Bulldogs thirty-six yard line with just twenty-three seconds left in the game.

The Toombs County Bulldogs are back in action this Friday night at home against Twiggs County with the kickoff set for 7:30.
