July 26— Grace Draughn of the Vidalia Lady Indians Golf team signed a letter of intent for a scholarship to play golf for the Lions at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. They are a Division II school and compete in the Conference Carolinas.

“After the State Championship I had four colleges talk to me after my round. It was really a surprise, but the coach at Emmanuel just stuck out to me. He got to know me and really seemed liked cared and I felt the connection. The school is small and that is what I like. I want to thank my mom and dad who really pushed me after I broke my hand. After coming back from that it took me a while , but my game came back and Coach Barker worked with me and he was such a big part of this.” Draughn said.

VHS Coach Chad Barker said, “I am very proud of her. We have only had Grace for two years and she fit right in with the team. She has really improved her golf game and does a great job in the classroom. To have all three of our seniors get scholarships is just great and we are really proud of that. For them to be able to continue their education and play golf is what we are looking for.”

“Grace started chasing me around the golf course when she was around five years old. She had found other interests in middle school, but her sophomore year in high school she came to me and said she wanted to play golf. She now just loves the game. She has her class ring and her State Championship ring, guess which one she wears all the time. We are just very proud of her.” David Draughn said.
