July 12--  A Florida man is in the Toombs County jail after leading police on a chase from Toombs to Candler County Wednesday afternoon.

Toombs County Sheriff Junior Kight says it all started at the Dollar General in Lyons when Lewis Dean Martin of Eustis, Florida stole a grill from in front of the store and put it in a school bus he was driving.

"I don't know what went through his mind, but he must have really wanted a grill," the sheriff said.

A Toombs County deputy spotted the bus on Highway 152, but Martin refused to pull over and made his way to Interstate 16 near Metter.

"He entered the interstate and actually went east and west on the interstate.  He would go a way and turn across and go over and head back in the other direction. Finally one of the law enforcements units got some stop sticks out and his tired were punctured and he was finally broght to a stop," according to the sheriff.

Martin is being charged with theft by taking, eluding police and numerous traffic charges.
