July 5--  Toombs County authorities are looking for the person who beat and set fire to the home of a county resident early Wednesday morning.

Toombs County Sheriff Junior Kight says Shannon Sharpe, described as a white man in his 40's, was severely beaten.  His mobile home on the Dorsey Jordan Road south of Santa Claus was allegedly set on fire.

"He was at his house and a guy came by and saw the trailer smoking about eight o'clock yesterday morning and called 911. They found Sharpe in the back yard. He had got out of the trailer but he had been burned bad. He had some trauma to his head and it appeared he had been beat up," the sheriff said.

The motive may have been robbery, according to the sheriff,  "That's the only thing we can come up with right now.  We don't of any enemies and everybody we've talked to said he got along with everybody."

Sharpe was taken to a Savannah hospital in critical condition.
