June 13-- At the Vidalia Board of Education meeting Tuesday night, Dr. Garrett Wilcox was named superintendent to succeed Dr. Tim Smith who is retiring after 17 years as superintendent.
"It's exciting and an honor that the board has entrusted this reponsibility to myself and I'm looking forward to the challenge." Dr. Wilcox said, "In the role as high school principal the last three years, I feel like I'm vested in the well-being and betterment of the system and hope to continue the consistent leadership that this system has had for so long." He went on to thank the board for giving him the opportunity as well as the staff and his family for all of their support.
Outgoing superintendent Dr. Tim Smith says, "I think he is going to do a good job but he will have a learning curve for a while."
Dr. Wilcox will assume his duties on July 1, 2012.
