October 25-- "Safe Kids Toombs County" is trying to educate students to keep safety first and foremost in advance of Friday's night big rivalry football game between the Vidalia Indians and Toombs County Bulldogs.
Wednesday afternoon at Toombs County High School students witnessed results of a staged vehicle crash with injuries and a fatality.
Safe Kids Director Bonnie Brantley explained the accident happened because a student attempted to snatch a large flag from the pickup bed.
The mounting of oversize flags on trucks to show school spirit is a safety hazard, according to Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker.
He noted traffic accidents are the number one cause of teenage deaths in Toombs County and advised students 'Don't do something stupid" as they get ready for Friday night.
