October 25-- A Vidalia man has been charged with animal cruelty after his emaciated dog was found roaming near his house on Adams Street.
Police say the female dog had escaped from a tether at the house of Curtis Duran at 801 Adams Street and was taken to the Vidalia Animal Shelter. Later seven of her puppies were found at the address and rescued from a feces-covered back porch.
Shelter Manager April Braddy took a photo which showed the dog's apparent starvation on her arrival at the shelter. Duran says it was because she always lost weight when she was nursing puppies.
This photo shows she gained a significant amount of weight after a week of eating at the shelter.
