October 16-- The Refuge Domestic Violence Shelter invites the public to a "Purple Thursday" ceremony in memory of a local woman killed this year by domestic violence.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and "The Refuge" will release 95 Purple Balloons in memory of 95 Georgians murdered by domestic violence this past year.
LaShanda January of Vidalia died in May as a result of a beating. She was employed at Shoney's in Vidalia and the ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in front of Shoney's on Highway 280 East in Vidalia.
