October 7-- Toombs Central Elementary School issued a news release announcing its Teacher of the Year.
"Tonawanda Irie, Principal of Toombs Central Elementary School is excited to announce that Mrs. Andrea Kelley (right) was selected as 2018 Teacher of the Year for the school. Mrs. Kelley is passionate about teaching and learning.
She shows great enthusiasm for her concentration areas of Science and Mathematics. Mrs. Kelley has high expectations for all of her students. Mrs. Kelley is honored and humbled by the experience of being the 2018 Teacher of the Year for Toombs Central Elementary.
Mrs. Kelley states that teaching and her students give her life! They give her a purpose! Mrs. Kelley feels like she is making a difference in the lives of her students while helping them to meet their academic, social and emotional needs. She is teaching them how to learn, to think, to be responsible and to exceed at anything they put their minds to.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” Her teaching philosophy is very simple: students do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care.
Mrs. Kelley is respected by students, parents, and teachers for the job she does each day. Mrs. Kelley is a true example of an exemplary teacher in today’s educational setting."
