--Hillary Clinton has accepted the Democratic party's presidential nomination Thursday night in Philadelphia, making history as the first woman to be chosen to run for the highest office in the land by a major party in the United States.The former secretary of state, introduced by her daughter Chelsea, drew on the historic roots of Philadelphia as a way to reiterate one of her campaign slogans. "Our Founders embraced the enduring truth that we are stronger together," she said. "America is once again at a moment of reckoning."
--Throughout the speech, she took aim at her Republican rival, Donald Trump, casting him as capitalizing on fear to divide the country and saying he lacked the temperament to be president.
--The father of one of 14 American Muslims who died serving in the U.S. Armed Forces in the ten years that followed the 9/11 attacks, took direct aim at Donald Trump Thursday night during a speech at the DNC, suggesting the GOP presidential candidate brush up on the Constitution.
--Stars at the DNC included Carol King and Katy Perry who performed.


--Facing some criticism over his comments seeming to condone the hacking of Hillary Clinton’s emails by Russian intelligence services, Donald Trump and his allies on Thursday sought to tamp down his remarks, with Mr. Trump saying he was simply being “sarcastic.”
--The White House made clear today that Donald Trump will receive the classified intelligence briefing customarily provided to the presidential nominees of each party, despite concerns raised by some current and former intelligence officials and top Democrats on Capitol Hill.


One officer has died and one has been hospitalized after being shot in San Diego Thursday night according to police. A suspect is in custody.  Police are investigating whether the officers, assigned to the gang unit, were ambushed.


Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch delivered emotional speeches Thursday at a Baton Rouge vigil honoring the three law enforcement officers who were killed by a lone gunman during a shootout outside a convenience store. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and relatives of the slain officers also spoke during the ceremony at Healing Place Church, where a funeral was held last Friday for 41-year-old Baton Rouge police officer Matthew Gerald.


The Pope visited two Nazi concentration camps in Poland Friday.  At Auschwitz Pope Francis walked through the main gate, under the Arbeit Macht Frei sign, and then toured the exhibitions. At Birkenau he prayed in front of the monument to the camp’s victims. He has two more events as part of World Youth Day Friday afternoon.

A man once convicted of the murder of Washington, D.C., intern Chandra Levy will not be retried, the U.S. Attorney for the DC said Thursday. The U.S. Attorney's office moved to dismiss the case charging Ingmar Guandique with Levy's murder after the office concluded that "it can no longer prove the murder case against Mr. Guandique beyond a reasonable doubt."


Sean Copeland and his 11-year-old son Brodie were killed in the attack along the famous Promanade des Anglais in Nice on July 14th while on a family vacation. In Austin, Texas Thursday where the two were from...a service was held in their memory.


The school built to replace the Sandy Hook Elementary school building where 26 people were gunned down will open Friday. Twenty young children and 6 teachers died in Adam Lanza's rampage in December 2012.


The Zika virus has forced a halt to all blood donations in two Florida counties as investigations into possible local transmission are underway. Health officials so far haven't identified a single case of Zika spread by mosquitoes here in the US....but Florida's now investigating at least 4 cases where mosquitoes in that state may have transmitted the virus.

Prince's family says an official tribute concert honoring the late icon will take place in October in the singer's hometown of Minneapolis.
