POPE
Pope Francis visits the United Nations and addresses the U-N General Assembly. Later he participates in a multi-religious service at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. In the afternoon, he tours through Central Park and celebrates Mass at Madison Square Garden.

VOTE 2016
- At least seven Republican presidential hopefuls and Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis will take part in the conservative Value Voters Summit in Washington, DC this weekend.  The event kicks-off Friday.
- Bernie Sanders is pulling away in the polls in New Hampshire. The Vermont senator has opened up a wide, 16-point lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the Granite State New Hampshire, according to a new CNN/WMUR/UNH poll released Thursday night.

CHINA PRESIDENT
President Obama will formally welcome the Chinese President to the White House for a series of meetings. President Xi Jinping arrived in DC Thursday.  The two will announce a sweeping cap-and-trade deal Friday, according to several senior administration officials.  Following an agreement between the two countries last November where the world powers announced post-2020 climate targets, officials say the deal will show the world that China and the U.S. are committed to implementing policies “to lead the world toward a durable global climate agreement.”

OBAMA/PUTIN
President Obama is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week ... during the session of the United Nations General Assembly.

SAUDI PRINCE ARRESTED
Saudi prince Majed Abdulaziz Al-Saud was arrested on suspicion of trying to force a sex act on a worker at the home he was renting near Beverly Hills.  The LAPD has says Al-Saud does not have immunity in this case. 

HAJJ STAMPEDE
The death toll tops 700 in the horrific stampede at the annual Muslim pilgrimage on the outskirts of the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

WA BUS CRASH
The NTSB will be investigating the collision of two tour buses in Seattle that left four dead, dozens injured.  The crash involved students and staff from north Seattle's college's international program. Officials are investigating reports the duck boat's front wheels may have locked up.

VW CHEATING
--The EPA expects to compel VW to issue a recall in the future to reduce the emissions impacts of the vehicles that were deceptively sold as meeting the standard.  Owners will be notified of that recall once Volkswagen and Audi have developed a remedial plan and EPA has approved the plan.  Manufacturers are given a reasonable amount of time to develop a plan to complete the repairs, including both the repair procedure and manufacture of any needed parts. The Department of Justice says it is working closely with the EPA to determine any criminal activity.
--Volkswagen Supervisory Board scheduled to meet, and is expected to discuss last Friday's announcement from the EPA and California Air Resources Board that they had detected manipulations that violate U.S. environmental standards while testing Volkswagen diesel cars.

BLIND BULLY HERO
A Southern California high school student is being praised by his classmates after a viral video showed him stepping-in to slug an apparent bully who was harrassing a blind kid.  The alleged bully in the case was arrested by Hunntingtion Beach Police.  

FIFA SCANDAL
As FIFA's executive committee meets in Switzerland, for FIFA Vice President Jack Warner will learn Friday whether a court will proceed with hearings that could see him extradited to the United States to face charges over corruption. Warner, 72, is currently fighting extradition in his native Trinidad and was indicted in May by a US grand jury on 12 charges

TX REF TACKLED
The Texas high school assistant football coach who allegedly ordered his players to "take out" a referee during a game earlier this month has resigned -- but maintained that the referee had used a racist epithet during the game.

PATRICK KANE
Tom Eoannou, the attorney representing Chicago Blackhawk Patrick Kane's alleged sex assault victim, has withdrawn from the case over "ethical concerns" regarding an evidence bag, he said in a press conference Thursday night.  On Wednesday, Eoannou said an evidence bag that once contained the rape kit of the woman accusing Kane of sexual assault was left at her mother's door. Eoannou said he's still confident in the woman's allegations against Kane, who is accused of sexually assaulting her at his New York home on August 2nd. Kane has not been charged.

IPHONE 6S
The Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus hits stores Friday.  The release doesn't have the same fanfare as we've seen in the past, but there are some improvements in the new version compared to the iPhone 6.  Users will see new front and rear cameras, upgraded processors and RAM, and a pressure-sensitive 3D Touch screen.  And if you're looking for a deal, the prices of the older models have plummeted.
