24 year-old Muhamed Youssef Abdulazeez has been identified as the deceased gunman who killed 4 Marines and injured 3 other people Thursday in Chattanooga, TN. The FBI is investigating whether he was inspired by ISIS. Authorities say Abdulazeez, born in Kuwait, attacked military-related buildings in the southern Tennessee city before his own death. People who knew the shooter in high school say he was a nice kid even a school "joker." Investigators will provide a 3PM EDT update.
James Holmes was found guilty of murder Thursday in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting from 2012, and may face the death penalty as the sentencing phase begins. The judge and attorneys return to court on Monday; jurors return on Wednesday.
Holmes was found guilty of murdering 12 people and wounding 70 others. The sentencing phase will take one month, with an entire new trial, complete with opening statements and testimony.
Former President George H. W. Bush is in the hospital after falling in his Maine home on Wednesday, breaking a bone in his neck. While he is now in fair condition, he is currently in the hospital due to his age. According to the 91-year-old’s spokesperson, Bush doesn’t need surgery, but will be in a neck brace for a few months as he heals naturally.

The FAA is now reporting that 12 flights were hit with green lasers overnight as they approached Newark airport. That brings the average of these illegal incidents to 15 a year. Pilots caught in these laser attacks are reaching a breaking point, one even claiming his eyesight was permanently affected Wednesday night, now suffering from blurred vision. Pointing lasers into cockpits is a federal crime punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. With this type of crime on the rise, the FBI, FAA and the New Jersey State Police are actively investigating the incidents.

Questions and outrage are surfacing after a new video shows 28-year-old Sandra Bland getting arrested in a Texas traffic stop after allegedly assaulting an officer – only to be found dead in her Jail cell three days later. Officials are now saying she asphyxiated herself with a plastic bag in her cell, but her friends and family believe this was a case of foul play.The Texas Rangers and the FBI are on the case.
The Greek government is promising to reopen banks Monday and gradually restore services after winning a pledge of support from bailout lenders needed to keep its economy from collapsing. Officials in Athens, however, say the painful austerity measures demanded in return were likely to force an election within months.

Big tobacco sways doctors to testify against the science. Stanford researchers report evidence of "systematic bias" in connection to the "role played by smoking in head and neck cancer" in the testimonies of a small group of doctors who frequently serve as expert witnesses on behalf of the tobacco industry. In at least 50 cases, the researchers say, these doctors have argued in court cases lodged against tobacco companies that smoking was not the primary cause of plaintiffs’ cancers, even in cases in which the scientific evidence suggests otherwise.
The Confederate battle flag has come down from the lawn of the South Carolina Capitol, but the controversy seems far from over. On Saturday, a group affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan plans to rally at the site where the Confederate flag flew at the statehouse. The New Black Panther Party plans a demonstration of its own and local policymakers and police are concerned about the potential for confrontation.
An anti-abortion group has released an online video that it says documents how Planned Parenthood is selling fetal organs for a profit, a felony, while violating medical ethics by altering normal abortion procedures so as to preserve the organs. Planned Parenthood has countered that it donates the tissue for scientific research and receives only reimbursement for its expenses, which is legal. The group also says it helps people donate tissue "with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards."
